Prohibition.com is a personal project that I'm working on currently. I want to rise above the tyranny of the big beer companies and bring to light the revelation that is craft beer. The idea centers around a community of beer enthusiasts that want to enjoy one of America's favorite past times... Drinking beer and talking about it.

I am currently in the process of buying the domain prohibition.com

Prohibition.com will offer a number of features including a blog, featured items like micro-breweries, recipe books, Prohibition Beersmiths, and some more educational content.

Each user gets there own profile page with an online Beer journal, much like the ones that wine aficionados keep. They can keep track of all their recent brews and recipes. There's even a spot for other users to critique and assist.

A goal for the users is to grow as a home-brewer, so it's essential that they keep track of their past attempts and recipes. The site will hold an archive of all of their past brews and current brew projects.

If a user is so inclined, the journal extends into a video library as well. Users can showcase their brewing facilities, approach, or whatever they wish to show others.

The Media section of the site hosts an API using Google Maps and the Beer Mapping Project which exists to archive and share where all the brewpubs, micro-breweries, and pubs are in the entire world.

The part of this project that I'm most excited about is the BrewPub Challenge. This is a competition that enlists the help of local micro-breweries and brewpubs so some of the users can get their recipes mass produced at their favorite local pub. This would be a great opportunity for entrepreneurs to start their own Beer labels.

My Goal:
Create a location where people who are passionate about beer can come together and contribute to each others knowledge. This is a network and environment where fellow Beersmiths could easily and efficiently share, grow, and benefit from using the site. The idea was to design a site around the growing cult home-brewers and also to establish a tight network of Microbreweries and Brewpubs.
Enter, Prohibition.com

Execution:
Prohibition.com is a symbol that “real” beer has been outlawed and the American people need to take back their right. The site uses the patriotism and history behind American bootlegging to establish a fun, approachable atmosphere around a simple, easy-to-use, social network. Users build a profile and membership revolves around attaining status as a beersmith. Each user starts as an apprentice and works his/her way up to “Beersmith”, by way of making their own brews at home. Users can purchase all the supplies and ingredients that they need to begin brewing at home, as well as all the instruction they would need to get started. Members support each other by offering advice and suggestions on how to make a good brew, where to find good recipes, and so on. Users can enter the Brew page, buy and mix a theoretical beer, and then post it to their profile for all to see. When they’re ready they can purchase all the ingredients it takes to make the drink. Once they get the supplies, users keep an online journal of how they are doing and progressing. Other members can see this on their profile. Once they’re done, they can begin to move up in the ranks and towards the title of Beersmith.

The advantage of being a Beersmith is that these members have the opportunity to sell one of their homebrews at a local Microbrewery or Brewpub. The hope is that this will be the catalyst for a movement involving everyone who loves “real” beer and wants to do away with crappy light beers. Prohibition.com could one day sponsor nation-wide festivals and be the cause of many new mainstream beer brands that tout “greater taste”, “more hopps”, and “more adjuncts”. Prohibition.com is originally for the type of person who drinks beer like wine and is an aficionado, but the hope is that good taste and common sense will spread to the masses.
